It has been a very busy two years since I was elected, however whilst it has had its’ challenges, it has been the best and most interesting 2 years! Since before I was elected, I have advocated for the refurbishment of the Greenhills Shopping Centre, and met with the tenants and the owners to try and take this forward. I am delighted to see that finally plans have been submitted to develop the centre, and hopefully at last, this important part of the community will be redeveloped shortly.
One of the main reasons for people contacting me is regarding flytipping/ litter and dog fouling in the area. I have arranged a meeting with Housing and Environmental Services to see what we can do to address this issue and make the environment nicer for people to live.
Archie Buchanan and I have complained about the roads in this area, and so far Lickprivick Road, High Whitehills Road, and part of Greenhills Road has already been resurfaced with Quarry Road and Lindsayfield Road due to be resurfaced shortly. I have also managed to get the Council and Miller Homes to work together to clear the path at Netherton Road so that the children of Lindsayfield have a clear walking route to school.
Due to the amount of Child Poverty in the area-not helped by the introduction of Universal Credit- Holiday lunch clubs will be rolled out in the Primary Schools in the area so that all children will have access to a meal during the summer holidays.
I have also forged good relationships with the local schools and Community Police. The Community Police have been a fantastic asset in the area and the incidences of anti-social behaviour has been reduced. There is still a lot of work to be done in the local Community, and I am very grateful to have been elected and given the opportunity to do so.
